The Network Technician is responsible for the configuration of Network equipment (switches, routers, firewalls and servers) as required protocol.

Essential Functions:

  • Applies technical knowledge of networking applications in supporting the layer 2 network infrastructure to provide system tuning, prevent network problems; and, analyze, troubleshoot, isolate and diagnose network problems.
  • Updates and maintains documentation on network configuration.
  • Implements network changes to provide end-users and Customers improved services with minimal interruption to the services.
  • Upgrades network hardware and software components as required.
  • Tests new network configurations prior to implementation.
  • Working knowledge of Windows Operating Systems, Linux/Unix Operating System, Visio and Microsoft Office.
  • Provide after hours, on-call support as needed.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Hands-on working experience with Switches.
  • Thorough knowledge of TCP/IP.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate with end-users and managers.
  • Ability to apply basic math skills and read/interpret the output from a variety of test equipment, servers, routers.
  • Ability to solve practical problems.       
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Working knowledge of Visio to update and maintain network and cabling documentation. 
  • Documents actions taken during the course of the day for incorporation into daily reports and/or procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply concepts and read, interpret, and apply the output from sniffers, management software, servers, and routers.

Education & Work Experience:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent education from a two-year or four-year university or college and six months of related work experience;
  • Network Design, Network equipment (Firewalls, Routers, Switches, etc) or Network Topology coursework experience.

Certifications & Licenses:

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate, Cisco Certified Design Associate or higher, Microsoft Certified System Engineer, or Checkpoint Firewall Certified preferred.
