The Senior Software Developer is responsible for performing various structured design and programming activities to support business processing and information requirements, and for ensuring the timely and accurate completion of all assigned programming tasks. The Senior Software Developer ensures that all projects are completed in accordance with the Company’s development standards, including the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and with consideration given to performance, scalability, and easy on-going maintenance.

The Senior Software Developer communicates with the Programming Manager or Development Manager regarding coding status and technical issues within open development initiatives.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead the design and coding of applications in a corporate enterprise environment, in a structured manner, following the Company’s SDLC.
  • Write technical specifications create class diagrams, flow charts and sequence diagrams for projects.
  • Modify software to improve business rules and practices.
  • Lead the internal testing of programs (self-written or written by other developers) prior to QA, with appropriate documentation that meets Company standards.
  • Guide and assist other development team members as necessary.
  • Lead in the facilitation of JAD sessions with the business.
  • Communicate with technical writers to provide project documentation.
  • Communicate project status and activity as requested.
  • Lead the interface efforts with legacy, Internet and CTI systems.
  • Operational responsibilities for ongoing maintenance and support, including periodic after-hours support requiring availability by pager and/or phone.
  • Occasionally assisting with other aspects of the Company’s business, such as Customer Assistance, when requested.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgement in software development responsibilities.
  • Identify pertinent application and database parameters, settings and tuning requirements across various platforms.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Experience with one or more of the operating platforms used at ACS (e.g. AS/400, Unix, Windows NT).
  • Experience with Java programming languages, as well as Spring, JSP/JSTL, Boostrap, JQuery, JBoss, Eclipse, Github, and Java annotations.
  • Familiar with one or more of the databases used at ACS (e.g. DB2, Oracle, MySQL).
  • Familiar with development methodologies such as .NET, XML, CGI, MS Internet Services and WinNT Administrative tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of J2EE with proven skills in following areas:
  • Object Oriented Analysis and Design (OOAD) and UML
  • Enterprise Java Beans (EJB), JSPs, Servlets etc.
  • Design Patterns such as Model-View-Controller(MVC), Abstract Factory, Value Object
  • Data modeling
  • Understand middleware concept; experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with diverse technical architectures (e.g. RDBMS, data mining, networking, client/server, Apache Server, Tomcat, Jboss, Davox)
  • Ability to define software development problems, collect data, establish the facts and quickly draw valid conclusions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to contribute to the integration of browser-based applications with AS/400 and CTI.
  • Experience with the design and development of enterprise software solutions using n-tier, multi-platform architecture is preferred.
  • Experience with the design and development of applications within the credit card, banking, or financial industries is preferred.
  • Familiarity with FDR (First Data Resources) systems is preferred.
     

Education & Work Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited university with 5 or more years of progressively responsible experience in the software development environment working on design, development and deployment of complex, large-scale enterprise applications.
  •  Masters degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited US university with relevant experience preferred.
  • Sun certifications for Java Programmer (SCJP) and Web Component Developer (SCWCD) a plus.
