The Information Security Intern will be responsible for executing department-specific tasks and discharging related duties based upon functional knowledge obtained through dedicated exposure within the Information Technology, specifically the Information Security, department. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn the processes, procedures, and methods used in monitoring all systems in the enterprise as it relates to data security and data integrity. This position will also be responsible for providing technical and administrative support to the Company in the areas of reporting security-related issues and applications across the enterprise.
  • Within the framework of a Microsoft Windows environment, assist the Senior Client Server Technician and/or Engineer with the configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of server based components of existing/new networks and associated assemblies; answer clients’ inquiries in person and via telephone concerning the use of computer hardware and software, including: printing, electronic mail, network communications, applications software operations and operating systems, as well as install, configure, and maintain PC desktop equipment.
  • Provide systems support for our business systems, by diagnosing hardware, software, and networking problems; perform installation, repair, and preventative maintenance, track and document work in our ticketing system, set up and configure new workstations, install and update software, perform virus removals, clean up and tune systems as well as providing remote, telephone, and onsite support.
  • Learn vulnerability management, malware protection, risk management and related subjects.
  • Assist Senior Systems Administrator in the implementation and management of the Unix based systems of the Company, including both in-house and third party software; as well as all aspects of Unix systems management including performance monitoring and tuning, backup and recovery, hardware and software maintenance, capacity planning, and implementation of advanced design concepts.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Effective written/verbal communication skills are necessary in order to communicate with all levels of personnel (end-user to senior management)
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and administrative skills
  • Knowledge of standard computing platform communications: networks, midrange/mainframe, client/server, and telecommunications
  • Knowledge of current computer industry, internet, e-commerce technologies, trends, and capabilities
  • Working knowledge of Windows Domains, setup of Windows workstations and server
  • Knowledge in troubleshooting and diagnostics of PC hardware and software
  • Ability to understand and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to work independently
  • User level experience with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Education and Work Experience

  • Must be working towards a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, preferably with an Information Security certificate or minor, from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred.
  • Must be available to regularly work a 40 hour work week June-August.
